Companies Lagging on Training Directors

A survey of 644 ethics and compliance professionals by Navex Global found companies continue to provide less training to board members about cybersecurity, workplace harassment and conflicts of interest than others in the company. The survey found 22% of organizations train board members about cybersecurity, while 69% of their employees receive such training. Twelve percent train boards about workplace harassment compared with 76% of employees, while 33% train boards on conflicts versus 76% of employees. “Boards and the C-suite are the stewards of the program and are responsible for its oversight and funding. If they don’t understand the risks they cannot lead effectively,” said Ingrid Fredeen, Navex Global’s vice president of online learning content. “Failing to educate board members about cybersecurity is a major vulnerability–and is frankly shocking considering the sensitivity of what is on their devices.”
