IMF Lagarde: China’s Reforms No “Walk in a Park”

China should continue its economic reforms but the process is unlikely to be a smooth one, according to the newly reappointed head of the International Monetary Fund. Many of the reforms that China is currently mulling make sense, Christine Lagarde said on Friday as the IMF also officially confirmed her to serve a second five-year term as the fund’s head. China, which has been working to open parts of its economy and shift its engine of growth from exports to domestic consumption, needs to clearly communicate its plans to ease the volatility that has sometimes marked its reforms.
